Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL), or Montréal–Trudeau, also still commonly referred to by its former name of Montréal-Dorval International Airport, is the only international airport serving Montreal. It serves as the headquarters of Canada’s flag carrier, Air Canada and is one of the airline’s three hubs. It is also the headquarters for Air Inuit and Air Transat, and an operation base for Sunwing Airlines and Porter Airlines.
Trudeau is the third-busiest airport in Canada and one of eight Canadian airports with United States border preclearance. It is one of the main gateways into Canada with 69% of passengers arriving from non-domestic flights, the highest of any airport in Canada. It is the fifth-busiest transatlantic hub in North America.
The airport consists of one, two-storied terminal.
It is divided into four different zones:
Public Area: Used for arrivals and departures. One section of the public area is used for checking-in for flights within or outside of Canada (non-U.S.). The other section is dedicated specifically for flights departing to the United States.
Domestic Jetty: Accessible via security checkpoint A.
The domestic jetty is divided in two parts:
The Main Jetty is a wing attached to the main terminal building. The main terminal jetty holds 16 Gates (1-12, 15, 47-49).
The Satellite Jetty is connected by a tunnel to the main terminal. It holds 10 Gates (17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 28, 30, 32, 34).
International Jetty: Accessible via security checkpoint A. It is dedicated to flights with destinations outside Canada and the United States. This jetty holds 18 Gates (50-53, 55-68).
Transborder Jetty: this area is accessible using checkpoint C. It is dedicated to all U.S. bound flights. It has 18 Gates (72-89). Gates 87-89 are located one level below and are accessible via an escalator.
The airport offers several attractive dining and shopping options for travelers. There are cafes and takeaway restaurants located before security in the public area, and many more that are spread throughout the remaining three areas of the terminal, past the security checks.
Shops at the airport feature the latest in fashion and electronics, including duty free items beyond the security clearances checkpoint.
Lounges are present throughout the airport terminal. This includes two that are offered as part of SkyTeam and Star Alliance partnerships for frequent flyers. There are also three “Pay-In” lounges open for use by all passengers; Odyssey Lounge (Gate 63), Plaza Premium Lounge (Gate 76) and National Bank Lounge (Gate 53).
Bus: The airport is accessible by six bus routes operated by the Societe de Transporte (STM): one dedicated airport transfer service, one express route, two daytime routes, and two night buses.
Rail: Airport shuttle buses run every 45-60 minutes during regular operating hours from door 8 and connect to Dorval Station, located 2km (1.2mi) south of the airport. Via Rail is the national train operator in Canada and offers several inter-city rail connections from Dorval Station as well as to smaller regional centres in the local area. Via Rail does not provide a local service to Montreal Central Station from Dorval.
Taxi: Taxis are available at the arrivals level near the central exit located in front of the cloakroom.
Car rentals: Several agencies operate counters within the public area of the airport, near the entrance.
Parking: Lots of parking is available at the airport. This includes valet parking, long-term and short-term stays, and indoor and outdoor options. A service named CellParc allows guests to park outside the airport for up to two hours free of charge, while waiting to pick up a traveler.
The Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel is conveniently located next to the U.S. departures area of the airport.
