About 3 km northwest of Yellowknife, Yellowknife Airport (YZF) is a minor hub located in the Northwest Territories in Canada. Despite its reduced size and traffic, this is the busiest airport in the Northwest Territories. Only a few airlines operate here, including the country's flag carrier, Air Canada, and other companies such as Canadian North and WestJet. These provide direct transportation to over 15 destinations in the country, some of which are far north, such as Gjoa Haven, Kugluktuk, and Kugaaruk.
Yellowknife Airport consists of a single small terminal building, making it easy for passengers to find their way around the airport. In 2008, the building underwent a significant expansion, almost doubling its size.
No hotel, sleeping pod, or other similar facility is available at the airport due to the building's reduced size. However, most nearby accommodations provide a shuttle for those wanting to spend the night close to the airport.
Services are extremely limited here. Passengers will find a couple of cafés, a small gift shop, and vending machines. Free wifi is also available.
Below are some popular transportation options to travel to and from YZF:
Car Hire: Budget, Hertz, and National are all available on-site.
Taxis: Two companies are authorized to operate at the airport: City Cab and Yellowknife Cab.
Car: If you're traveling in your own car, you can park in one of the parking lots outside the terminal. The first hour is free of charge.
