Located about 11 km northeast of Kelowna, Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is one of the main airports in British Columbia. This hub is now used by six airlines: Alaska, Air North, Air Canada, Central Mountain Air, Flair, Pacific Coastal, and WestJet. These offer over 20 direct routes to both Canadian and international cities in the US, including Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, and in Mexico, such as Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. In 2023, this airport welcomed a total of 2,032,624 passengers, re-establishing itself as an important hub in the country.
The airport consists of a single terminal, making it easy for travelers to find their way. Passengers can access the terminal from the west side of the building, while the runway is on the east. Once inside, you will find ticketing counters in the central area of the terminal and the arrivals, with baggage claims facilities, on the left. Departures are on the right, and from here, passengers can access the airside area of the airport home to the gates. YLW also has a second floor featuring an observation deck.
Unfortunately, the airport doesn’t feature any sleeping pods or transit hotels. However, travelers planning to spend the night here can rely on one of the hotels that can be reached within a 15/20-minute walk from the terminal. Alternatively, public transport connects the airport to Kelowna, where passengers will find plenty of accommodations.
This airport has a few facilities for its passengers, including free unlimited wifi. YLW is home to a few eateries and stores, both airside and landside, and is also equipped with ATMs and a play area for kids.
If you’re about to travel to YLW soon, here are a few transportation options you may consider:
Shuttles: Several shuttle companies provide transportation to nearby resorts and some Canadian cities.
Taxi: Taxi and limousine services can also be found outside the terminal.
Ride Sharing: Uber is authorized to pick up passengers at the north end of the terminal, outside of the arrivals.
