When entering the airport you pass through either domestic or international security and enter one of the largest duty-free areas in the world. As you can tell from the map at the top of the page, Istanbul Airport is divided into five different concourses with 8 to 17 gates per terminal. All concourses except G are used for international flights.
Thanks to its logical layout, it is fairly easy to navigate from one part of the airport to another. With that being said this is a very large airport and it might take you up to an hour to get from one side to the other. When it comes to transfer possibilities from the airport to the central parts of Istanbul, there are a number of options to choose from. One popular alternative is the metro. The metro station is found on the south side of the airport and you reach it by crossing the main road. On the same side of the airport are also a couple of different options when it comes to bus transport.
