Additionally, Spain offers many smaller regional airports that can be used to connect flights on a domestic basis and are useful for reaching rural communities and remote areas.

The largest airport in Spain is located just northeast of the nation’s capital of Madrid. Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) is the country’s busiest airport and the 6th busiest airport in Europe. The Barajas airport offers travelers a robust network of destinations served, including North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Located in the Mediterranean among the Balearic Islands is Palma De Mallorca Airport (PMI) the country’s third busiest airport. Nearby is Ibiza Airport (IBZ). The Balearic Islands are known to be a popular destination for European travelers and tourists.

Located along the Mediterranean Sea, Málaga Airport (AGP) is the main airport serving the Costa del Sol region, another popular destination for Spanish tourists featuring vibrant beaches and cultural landmarks. To the east, Alicante Airport (ALC) and Valencia Airport (VLC) serve the region of Valencia, its vibrant nightlife scene and rich cultural heritage. To the west, is Seville Airport (SVQ) in the region of Andalusia along the Guadalquivir River, and an important inland port.

Further to the south and west of the Spanish mainland are the Canary Islands. These islands are a beautiful archipelago off the west coast of North Africa. There are seven islands in all that belong to Spain, as part of this archipelago.

The largest island is Tenerife, where you can find the Tenerife South Airport (TFS) and Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain.
