Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is a major international airport serving Rome, Italy. It is the busiest airport in Italy and the 9th busiest airport in Europe.
Rome Fiumicino Airport serves as a principal hub for Italy’s national flag carrier, ITA Airways. It is also an operating base for several other major airlines including Neos, AeroItalia, Ryanair, Vueling and Wizz Air.
The airport is located 30 km (19mi) south of Rome, in the town of Fiumicino within the commune of Rome. The airport is named after the famous polymath Leonardo da Vinci with several of his famous works and inventions on display at the terminal.
The airport consists of two terminals. They are named Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
Terminal 1 (Gates A1-A83) has its own pickup and drop-off area. Inside the main entrance is the area for security and customs clearances as well as the main Arrivals Hall.
On the first level above the ground level, is where the Departures Hall is located, along with boarding gates, shops and restaurants. On the second floor, there is a mezzanine area which offers several high-quality restaurants, bars and an airport lounge.
Terminal 1 serves as the home base for ITA Airways.
Terminal 3 (Gates E1-E52) also has its own pickup and drop-off areas. It is the larger of the two terminals at the airport. Inside the main entrance on the ground floor level, is the security screening and checkpoint areas along with the main Arrivals Hall.
On the first floor above the ground level, is a central hall for Departures. From here there are several gates that lead to the different boarding areas as shown on our map. There is another mezzanine level on the second floor above the ground level which offers several spots for dining, shopping and a pharmacy.
Terminal 3 also includes what is commonly referred to as the satellite building, containing Gates E31-E44. These gates are used for flights to non-Schengen destinations and require additional security clearances. The satellite building is located off to the western edge of Terminal 3, which can be seen by using our map at the top of the page.
Servicing Terminal 3, there is an automated people mover (APM) called the SkyBridge. It is used to transport travelers to and from the non-Schengen Gates E31-E44. It has two stations. One is located on the third floor of the main Terminal 3 building and the other is located on the second floor of the area containing Gates E31-E44. Travel using the APM is one-way only. Westbound services from T3 to Gates E31-E44 are for departing passengers only, while Eastbound services from Gates E31-E44 are for arriving passengers only.
There is a wide range of dining options and restaurants at the airport for passengers to enjoy. These include cafes, fast foods, ice creams and desserts, local and international cuisines and wine bars.
There are additionally services available online where travelers can pre-order their meals to pick them up at the airport and take with them on their flights.
Additionally, there are many places for visitors to shop within both terminals at the airport. Retailers include newspapers and bookstores, convenience stores, fashion and beauty products, jewelry and watches, gifts and souvenirs, health and accessories.
The airport also includes Arrival Lounges and Air Rooms where passengers can relax and work from several hours to several days, if needed. There is also a Hilton Hotel accessible via covered pedestrian tunnel with a moving walkway, that can be reached by foot in under 10 minutes. The hotel features 21 meeting rooms, a fitness centre, swimming pool, and jacuzzi.
Conveniently for travelers there are many good options for ground transportation services to help you get to and from the airport:
Train: There is a railway station located inside the airport. From there, travelers can reach the Rome city centre via a couple of options. The Leonardo express runs a non-stop service between the airport and Roma Termini, with departures every 15 minutes and an estimated travel time of 32 minutes. There are also FL1 regional train lines to several other stations within Rome. These run with departure times of every 15 minutes during the week, and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays.
Bus: There are several bus lines that run services to and from the airport. There is a bus station at Terminal 1 outside of the Arrivals area, and another station at Terminal 3, adjacent to exit 6.
Taxi: Regular taxi services are available from both terminals. Authorized Taxi vehicles are white with a “TAXI” sign on the roof. The symbol of the municipality is fixed to the front doors with a license number on the doors and on the back and inside the vehicle.
Rental cars: Car rental desks can be found in Office Tower 2. This is located in the Multilevel Parking structure which can be found by following the posted signs. There is a pedestrian tunnel which connects the Terminal buildings to the Multilevel Parking structure.
Parking: There are many parking options available at the airport, with more than 19,000 parking spaces available in total. Parking services are always open and operate 24/7. Executive parking services are available, as is a multistory parking garage with covered parking, and long-stay parking lots that feature both covered and uncovered parking options. Shuttle bus services are available to offer transport to and from the long-stay parking lots.
