Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) is a minor hub situated within the Eglin Air Force Base and handled 2,2 million passengers in 2023. Near the city of Valparaiso, this airport is about 16 miles northwest of Destin, Florida. VPS changed several names throughout its history and was previously known as Okaloosa Regional Airport and Northwest Florida Regional Airport. Six airlines currently operate their flights here, offering over 40 direct routes to destinations in the USA.
The airport consists of a single terminal building divided into a main area and three concourses.
Main Area: This area features all the main services and facilities. Arriving passengers can get their luggage here, while those departing can go through the VTA checkpoints. Several transportation options connecting the airport to and from nearby areas are also available.
Concourse A: This concourse is on the first floor and houses Gates A1-A3.
Concourse B: Concourse B is on the second floor. Here, you will find Gates B1-B6. Southwest Airlines uses Gate B1, Delta Air Lines uses Gate B2, while Gates B3 - B6 are for American Airlines.
Concourse C: This is the newest concourse and operates Allegiant flights. Here, you will find Gates C1-C5. This concourse is located in a nearby building and can be reached with a quick walk.
Unfortunately, there are no sleeping cabins or pods in the airport or in its vicinity. Passengers planning to spend the night here should opt for a taxi or rent their own car and head to one of the nearby cities to find accommodation.
Despite being relatively small, Fort Walton Beach Airport has several amenities for its guests. While you won’t find pay-per-use lounges, VPS is home to Mamava Lactation Pod on Concourse B, two ATMs, courtesy phones, and a tourist information center. Free wifi is also available throughout the terminal. The airport has a few stores and eateries, but these are limited.
Unfortunately, public transportation doesn’t serve this airport. However, there are other options you can count on.
Car Hire: Several car rental agencies are available on-site.
Shuttles and Taxis: Many private taxis and shuttle companies operate at the airport. You can find a full list on the airport’s official website.
Car-sharing: Apps such as Uber and Lyft also operate here.
Those arriving here in their own car can park in one of the two parking lots. The first ten minutes are free-of-charge. You can check rates at the airport’s official website.
