With over 70 airlines operating here, Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is among the busiest airports in the world. In 2023, it handled over 35 passengers, re-establishing itself as a main hub in the area. This airport is located about 40 km west of Taipei in a city known as Taoyuan. Once known as Chiang Kai-shek International Airport, TPE serves as the main international hub for China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines.
This airport consists of two terminals connected by skytrain, shuttle bus, and MRT, a rapid transit line of the Taoyuan metro.
Terminal 1: This is the oldest terminal and features two piers and five levels.
Terminal 2: This terminal opened in 2000 and was recently renovated. It features two concourses and seven levels.
A third terminal is currently under construction.
Those wanting to spend the night at the airport can do so at the CHO Stay Capsule Hotel. This is located in the landside area on the last floor of Terminal 2. Alternatively, Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport is also located on airport grounds but outside the terminals.
Here, travelers can find unique performances in the departure hall in Terminal 2. The airport is also home to several art exhibitions, a playing area for kids, a gym, and a reading area, among other services. TPE has a variety of stores, including a duty-free area, as well as several restaurants and cafès, offering halal and vegetarian options.
If you are about to travel to this airport, you can choose among several transportation options:
MRT: This rapid line of the Taoyuan metro connects the airport to several areas in Taoyuan.
Bus: Buses connect the airport to plenty of cities in Taiwan. You can check the airport’s official website to learn everything about the routes available.
Taxi: You will also find taxis on both terminals operating 24 hours. These provide transfers to all of Taiwan.
Car rental: If you prefer to have your own car for your trip, you can rent one from one of the car rental agencies present on both terminals.
For those arriving with their own car, the airport offers up to 30 minutes of free parking three times per day.
