Geneva Airport (GVA), also known as Cointrin Airport, is an international airport in Geneva, the second most populous city in Switzerland. It serves as a hub for Swiss International Air Lines and easyJet Switzerland.
Featuring a route network of flights mainly to European metropolitan and leisure destinations, as well as some long-haul routes to North America, China, and the Middle East, it is located 4km (2.5mi) northwest of the city centre.
The airport has two terminals. They are named Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2).
Terminal 1 (Main Terminal): This is the newer and larger of the two terminals. It handles most flights at the airport.
Terminal 1 has five piers (A, B, C, D, F):
Piers A, B, C, D are in the Swiss side of the main terminal and use the regular check-in and security areas.
Pier A: Located directly in front of the main shopping area on the Swiss side of the terminal. Serves destinations in the Schengen area and domestic flights to Zürich.
Pier B: Opposite the main shopping area, there is an entrance to an underground tunnel. This tunnel contains a passport control and connects to two satellite buildings (Pier B). These are used for non-Schengen flights.
Pier C: Located to the right (when facing) Pier A. Used for non-Schengen and long-haul flights.
Pier D: Consists of one satellite building, and one bus gate building. Schengen flights are located on the upper level, and non-Schengen flights on the lower level. Pier D is reached by underground tunnel from the left (when facing) side of Pier A.
Pier F: Also known as the French Sector. It has two gates with jet bridges, and four bus gates. Allows travelers arriving from French destinations to avoid Swiss custom controls. Also provides faster access to French ski resorts located to the south of Geneva, via shorter road distance.
Terminal 2: Only used during the winter charter season. Departing passengers checking-in at Terminal 2 will pass through security checks and take a shuttle bus to Terminal 1. Arriving passengers will be bussed directly from their aircraft to Terminal 2 to collect baggage and pass through security checks.
The location of both terminals, their gates, as well as the airport’s pick-up and drop-off areas can be found using our map at the top of this page.
Geneva Airport has a variety of dining options available to choose from in Terminal 1. These include cafés, bars, pastries, sandwiches, drinks, chocolates, and gourmet regional and seasonal cuisines.
The airport features a wide range of shops for travelers in Terminal 1 including foods, chocolates and sweets, fashion and accessories, watches and jewelry, pharmacy, photography, electronics, newspapers, souvenirs, gifts, tobacco, flowers, duty-free items and more.
Terminal 1 offers several lounges for guests at the airport, including VIP services upon departure and arrival. These can be found in the Swiss area of the main terminal, in the main transit area, and in the East Pier (Gate C).
Most of the airport facilities are in Terminal 1. Facilities at Terminal 2 are limited to a restaurant and do not include duty-free shops.
Train: The airport has a railway station with trains operating to Geneva-Cornavin station (Geneva city centre). Transit time takes approximately 7 minutes. Trains run up to seven times per hour during peak hours. Discount fares and overnight trains are available.
Metro: Geneva city centre is easily accessible by train or bus using the united network of public transport, Unireso. City buses serve the airport at a frequency of 8-15 minutes during rush hour for urban lines, and 20-30 minutes during peak hours for regional lines.
Bus: Several regional services and coach lines make regular stops at the airport.
Car rental: Car rental agencies can be found located in both the Swiss and French sectors of the airport, next to the main check-in area, and Arrivals level.
Parking: Several car parks are located on or close to the airport complex. Services include valet parking, short-term stays, long-term parking, EV stations, and remote car parks with shuttle bus access.
