Zurich Airport (ZRH) is the largest international airport of Switzerland. It serves Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, and connects to its surface transport links and much of the rest of the country.
The airport serves as the principal hub for Swiss International Air Lines, the national flag carrier of Switzerland. It is also a hub for Chair Airlines, Helvetic Airways, and an operating base for Condor and Edelweiss Air. Zurich Airport is located 13 km (8mi) north of central Zurich, within the canton of Zurich.
The airport is a large complex structure that consists of a ground-side terminal complex called the Airport Centre, a central air-side building, called the Airside Centre, and three airside piers.
These three piers are referred to as Terminals A, B, and E with signage inside the airport that uses the naming terminology Gates A, B/D, and E.
The ground-side Airport Centre comprises several buildings, including check-in and ticketing counters, shopping malls, a railway station and a bus and tram terminal.
All departing passengers pass through airport security into the Airside Centre which offers duty-free shopping, and various bars and restaurants.
Within the departures area, passengers are separated between those traveling within Schengen areas and those traveling to non-Schengen destinations. Passengers leaving the Schengen zone must clear additional emigration control checks.
Terminal A: Holds Gates A. It is used exclusively by flights to and from the Schengen Area, including Geneva.
Terminal B: Holds Gates B and D. It can accommodate both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. Each gate in this terminal has two numbers, one starting with B and one with D. They are used to identify and separate the flows of Schengen and non-Schengen passengers.
Terminal E: Holds Gates E. Also known as the midfield terminal, or Dock E. It is a stand-alone satellite terminal located opposite the Airside Centre.
Arriving passengers are handled in different areas of the Airside Centre than departures and reach one of the two Arrivals Halls, which are shown in our map next to the two pickup and drop-off zones for ground transportation.
There are many places where passengers can dine and shop at the airport. Options include fast food, take away, bars and cafes and sit-down restaurants.
Shops at Zurich Airport include those that feature gifts and souvenirs, the latest in fashion and apparel, watches, jewelry and accessories and duty-free items.
The airport also features a hotel within the terminal complex and several more in the nearby area. There is also a transit hotel with dayrooms offered for busy travelers and stayovers.
Trains: Local public services depart for Zurich’s main station approximately every 10 minutes. The journey takes 15 minutes on average. Public transit connects to many of the nearby regions.
Taxi: Official taxis are found next to the inner curbside lanes of Arrival 1 and 2. They are marked with official “Airport Taxi” signage.
Rental cars: Car hire services are available from the car rental centre on the 1st floor of the Airport Shopping area.
Parking: Several options for parking are available at the airport. Some of these provide direct access to the terminal. There are also electric vehicle charging stations and valet services available.
