Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) is one of four major international airports serving the city of Moscow, Russia. It is the busiest airport in Russia, and the 11th busiest in all of Europe.
The airport is located 29 km (18 mi) northwest of central Moscow, between the towns of Lobnya and Khimki in Moscow Oblast. It serves as the main hub for Russia’s national flag carrier, Aeroflot, as well as its subsidiaries, Rossiya Airlines and Pobeda, as well as for Nordwind Airlines and its subsidiary Ikar and Smartavia.
The airport complex has four passenger terminals that are divided into two groups by their geographical location. The Northern Terminals include Terminal B and Terminal C. The Southern Terminals include Terminal D and Terminal E.
Terminal B is responsible for handling domestic flights only. It has a capacity of handling up to 20 million passengers annually. There is an interterminal underground passage between Terminal B and the airport’s Southern Terminals.
Terminal C sits adjacent to Terminal B. It consists of two parts, Terminal C1 and Terminal C2.
Terminal D is a hub for Aeroflot and SkyTeam partners. There is a multi-storey parking garage attached to Terminal D via a pedestrian bridge.
Terminal E connects between Terminal D and Terminal F. It has 8 jetway equipped jets and a chapel on the second floor.
Terminal F has 15 jetways and 21 remote aircraft stands. Until the completion of Terminal C it was the only terminal servicing international flights.
There is an Automated Passenger Transport System (APTS) that runs between the Northern and Southern Terminals at the airport.
There are many options for dining while at the airport. These include cafes, restaurants, bars, coffee houses, fast food, and packaged take away items to take on flights.
The airport also has many shops and retailers that travelers can choose from. These include cosmetics and fragrances, mobile services, clothing and accessories, press and books, flowers, jewelry, a pharmacy and convenience items including many travel essentials.
Rail: Aeroexpress operates a nonstop line that runs between the airport and downtown Moscow. Transit time is approximately 35 minutes.
Bus: Moscow can be reached by the municipal Mosgortrans bus lines. Services run frequently and travel time takes between 30 to 60 minutes, dependant upon the bus route.
Car rentals: There is a car rental service counter that is located in Terminal D, as shown in our map at the top of the page.
Parking: Several parking lots are located to the north of the North Terminals and to the south of the South Terminals as shown in the map at the top of this page.
