Located about 20 km northeast of Panama’s capital, Tocumen International Airport (PTY) is the main airport serving Panama City and the busiest in the country. PTY is used as a home base by Copa Airlines, and more than ten other airlines use it for their flights. This airport served over 17.8 million passengers in 2023, thanks to both its local and domestic routes.
This airport is divided into two interconnected terminals. Since its opening in 1947, the building went through three expansion phases, which led to the creation of new boarding bridges, extra gates, and moving walkways.
Unfortunately, there are no sleeping pods or cabins inside the airport. However, there are a couple of hotels located about 1.5 km from the terminals.
Panama City Airport features some essential services, but it’s not as well-equipped as other popular airports. For instance, free wifi is only available for 30 minutes after which passengers will have to use their data. Apart from this, PTY features a few lounges, a first-aid clinic, and ATMs. You will also find a duty-free area and some eateries to have a bite before your flight.
If you are about to head to this airport, you can choose between these two travel options:
Bus: The Metro Bus connects the airport to Panama City. Travelers need to buy a prepaid card to pay for their trip.
Car Hire: Several car rental agencies are available on-site for those who prefer to have a car on their trip to Panama.
