Hamburg Airport (HAM), once known as Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport, is one of the main hubs in northern Germany and was used by 13.6 million passengers in 2023. Over 55 airlines operate here, including leading flag carriers and several low-costs. With over 120 direct domestic and international destinations, Hamburg Airport remains one of the leading airports in Germany.
Hamburg Airport consists of two terminals connected by the Airport Plaza and baggage claim area. Despite the name, Terminal 1 is the newest, while Terminal 2 is slightly older.
Radisson Blu Hotel Hamburg Airport is the best option for those who want to spend the night at the airport. This hotel is located right in front of the terminals, and passengers can reach the building without leaving the Hamburg Airport, thanks to the pedestrian bridge departing from the Airport Plaza. Plenty of other nearby accommodations can be reached with a 15-minute walk.
Both terminals are open to several eateries, including popular fast-food chains and coffeehouses such as Burger King, MacDonald’s, and Starbucks. Travellers will also find many delicious German bakeries. Hamburg Airport is home to a few duty-free stores and several boutiques where passengers can purchase all sorts of goods, including suitcases, luxury clothes, and books.
The best way to reach the airport is the S-Bahn line S1, which departs every 10 minutes and takes only 25 minutes. Plenty of buses also operate this route. Stops are located in front of Terminal 1, on Level 0. Taxis stands are available in front of both terminals. Those who prefer to drive can rent a car from one of the many agencies at Hamburg Airport, such as Avis, Enterprise, Alamo, and Europcar.
