Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) is the international airport serving Germany’s fourth-largest city, Cologne. It is the seventh-largest passenger airport in Germany, offering service to 115 passenger destinations in 35 countries.
It is centrally located in the Cologne Bonn Region, 12km (7.5mi) southeast of the Cologne city centre. It serves as a hub for Eurowings, FedEx Express, and UPS Airlines. It is also a focus city for several leisure and low-cost airlines. It operates on a 24-hour daily basis.
The airport has two passenger terminals which are located directly beside each other. They are connected via a landside walkway. Each features its own set of check-in facilities.
Terminal 1: This is the older of the two terminal buildings. It features a U-shaped design and two star-shaped piers, B and C. Eurowings, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines operate from this terminal, which also features direct access to the airport’s railway station.
Terminal 2: The newer of the two terminals, it is located to the north of Terminal 1. It features a modern-style rectangular building made from glass and steel. It is used by Ryanair and Iran Air. It also connects directly to the airport’s railway station using the basement level.
The airport offers many attractive dining options for travelers. These include snacks, drinks, fast food, coffee, restaurants, bars, baked goods, hamburgers, and a supermarket.
Shops located at the airport include luggage products and accessories, press, news and bookstores, fashion, and duty-free shopping.
Other amenities at the airport include dental practices and a room of silence, for rest and prayer.
Train: The Cologne/Bonn Airport station is located directly across from both terminals. It offers direct access from Terminal 1 via the check-in area and from Terminal 3 via the basement level. The station is connected to the Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line offering many Intercity rail services. Trains run at least once an hour in each direction.
Rail: The S-Bahn line S19 and regional train RE 6 connect the airport rail station to Cologne Main Station.
Bus: Local bus lines connect the airport to Cologne (route 161) and Bonn (route SB60). A coach bus terminal is also available offering remote bus services to other German cities.
