Once one of the busiest airports in the world, Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) remains an important hub in Thailand, yet it has lost its past popularity. Together with Suvarnabhumi Airport, this is one of the two airports serving the country’s capital, Bangkok, and is located about 20 km northeast of its city center. DMK is one of Asia’s oldest operating airports and is the main base for airlines such as Thai AirAsia X and Nok Air. Today, this airport is mostly used by low-cost airlines.
This airport has two terminals connected by an exterior elevated walkway.
Terminal 1: Terminal 1 extends over four levels. The ground floor is used for international arrivals. Here, you will find car rental agencies, several restaurants, and stores. The first floor has some services such as immigration and offices for those requesting an e-visa on arrival. The second floor houses several gates, some lounges, and plenty of eateries, while the third floor is home to a couple of shops and restaurants.
Terminal 2: Similarly to Terminal 1, Terminal 2 also extends over four floors. The ground floor features domestic arrivals, several stores, and some services such as car rental agencies and money exchange desks. The first floor has a lounge, a money exchange desk, and some restaurants, while the second is for security checks, gates, and lounges. Lastly, the fourth floor is mainly used for eateries.
If you need to spend the night at the airport, you can book a sleeping pod in Terminal 2 at Sleep Box by Miracle. Alternatively, there are several nearby accommodations that can be reached with a quick walk.
This airport has plenty of services for its passengers. It features playgrounds for kids, several lounges, money exchange desks, and more. Here, you will also find renowned fast-food chains and cafès, plenty of shops, and duty-free stores.
If you are about to travel to Don Mueang International Airport, here are a few transportation options to consider:
Buses: Some bus companies connect the airport to several neighborhoods in Bangkok. You can find these on the ground floor of both terminals.
Car Hire: If you prefer to have your own car while traveling through Thailand, you can rent one from one of the many car rental agencies at the airport.
