Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) is a minor hub in New York. It’s located about three miles southwest of downtown Rochester and is used by eight airlines: United, Spirit, Southwest, JetBlue, Delta, Avelo, American, and Allegiant. These offer about 20 destinations in the USA, mostly on the East Coast, but with a few exceptions, including a direct flight to Las Vegas. More than 2.6 million people travel to and from ROC in 2023, re-establishing its importance as a main hub in the area.
This airport consists of a single terminal building, making it easy for passengers to find their way. This extends over two floors:
First Floor: This level is mainly used for arrivals. As they enter the building, passengers will find a greeting area right in front of them and a waiting area on the right. This is also where international arrivals with US customs offices are located. The left side of the building is home to the car rental agencies.
Second Floor: The second floor is for departing passengers. On the landside area, travelers will find airline ticket counters and check-ins. Following VAT controls, the building split into two concourses. Concourse A, on the right, is used by Spirit, Southwest JetBlue, and American Airlines, while Concourse B, on the left, is for United Airlines, Delta, and Allegiant. The former houses eleven gates, while the latter has ten.
Those wanting to spend the night here can book a room at The Fairfield Inn by Marriott Rochester Airport, located on airport property. This property can be reached with a quick walk from the terminal. Alternatively, other accommodations in the area provide a shuttle to the airport.
This airport is home to a few eateries, including famous food chains such as Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts. Here, you will also find a Hudson News store for last-minute purchases. ROC features a pet relief area on Concourse A, an observatory area near the main ticketing lobby, and free wifi.
