Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), often referred to as Mumbai Airport, is one of the busiest in India and in the entire world. Approximately fifty airlines operate their flights here, offering over 100 destinations worldwide.
This airport has two passenger terminals connected by a complimentary shuttle service. Keep in mind that the two terminals are far away from each other, so ensure you have enough time to travel between them if you have a transfer.
Terminal 1: Locally known as Santacruz Airport, Terminal 1 operates domestic flights only.
Terminal 2: Contrary to Terminal 1, Terminal 2 operates all international flights. This terminal is way bigger than Terminal 1 and is also used for domestic flights.
If you are planning to spend the night at Mumbai Airport, there are a few options available for you. In Terminal 2, you will find Niranta Airport Transit Hotel, where you can book a room for the night. Aviserv Lounge also has sleeping pods in case you only need a few hours of sleep. If you are heading to Terminal 1, you can spend the night at Taj Santacruz, which is a short walk from the terminal.
In both terminals, you will find duty-free stores and a few extra shops for all kinds of purchases. In terms of food, both terminals have a variety of cafès and restaurants, with some renowned eateries such as KFC, MacDonald’s, and Costa Coffee.
Once you arrive at Mumbai Airport, you can reach the city center thanks to the many local buses available. Another good option is to opt for a taxi or a rickshaw. The closest train station to Terminal 1 is Vile Parle (East), while the closest to Terminal 2 is Andheri (East). Unfortunately, none of these is directly connected to the airport.
