Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) is the busiest airport in Israel and welcomed over 21 million passengers in 2023. This airport has a strategic location, about 20 km southeast of Tel Aviv and 34 km northwest of Jerusalem. It serves as a hub of several airlines, including the country’s flag carrier, El Al, and other companies such as Arkia and Israir Airlines. About 90 airlines operate here, offering destinations to plenty of countries in the world.
This airport is divided into two terminals connected by a free shuttle. This departs every 15 minutes and operates 24 hours.
Terminal 1: This used to be the main terminal at the airport until the opening of Terminal 3 in October 2024. It went through several renovations and was used for low-cost airlines and domestic flights. The terminal was closed due to the huge drop in passengers following the Israel-Hamas War. It is unclear when it will reopen.
Terminal 3: This terminal has an area of over 10,000 m2 and is divided into several levels. The departure hall featuring 110 check-in desks is located on the upper floor, while arrivals are on the ground floor.
Unfortunately, there are no cabins or sleeping pods inside the airport. If you need to spend the night here, you will have to rely on a taxi to reach a hotel in the area.
Tel Aviv Airport offers plenty of services for its passengers. These include several lounges, foreign currency exchange, prayer rooms, and an animal service area. Here, you will also find plenty of eateries and restaurants, as well as a shopping mall located in Terminal 3.
If you are about to travel to Tel Aviv Airport, you can choose one of these transportation options:
Bus: Several bus companies offer transfers to Tel Aviv and other cities. You can check the airport’s official website for more information.
Train: A train connects Tel Aviv with Terminal 3. You can buy your ticket on the rail.co.il
Taxi: In Terminal 3, you will also find a licensed taxi stand along the sidewalk on the ground floor at the exit from gate 03.
Car Hire: Several car rental agencies are also available.
