Richmond International Airport (RIC) is a joint civil-military airport located in Sandston, Virginia in the United States. The airport is located approximately 7 miles (11km) southeast of downtown Richmond.

It is the third-busiest airport in the state and the busiest airport in central Virginia. It primarily serves airline flying domestic routes to cities in the United States South, Northeast, and Midwest regions.

It also handles connecting flights to major hubs for international destinations. It is responsible for flying nearly 5 million passengers yearly.

Richmond International Airport: Terminal and gate map

The airport consists of a single terminal building. It features an upper-level Departures area and a lower-level Arrivals area.

On the second level, are the ticketing and gates area for arriving passengers. Beyond this area, there is a hallway that leads to security checkpoints in front of two concourses.

Concourse A is located to the left side of the terminal, when facing the airside. It contains Gates A1-A8 for Allegiant Airlines, American Airlines, Breeze Airways, JetBlue, and Sun Country.

Concourse B is located to the right side of the terminal. It contains Gates B1-B15 for Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and United Airlines.

On the first level of the terminal is the Arrivals Hall which includes baggage claim, a visitor’s center and rental car counters.

Dining and shops at Richmond International Airport

Richmond International Airport has many dining options for passengers and guests to enjoy. These are conveniently located on both sides of security. In the atrium area, prior to clearing security there is an Applebee’s along with a popular café featuring hot drinks and pastries.

Past clearing security, there are a couple of cafes and a diner that can be found in Concourse A. Meanwhile in Concourse B there is another coffee shop and several restaurants featuring hot foods and sandwiches. There is also a licensed pub establishment found within Concourse B.

For shoppers, there are several newsstands located throughout the airport that feature newspapers, popular periodicals and convenience items. There is also a bookstore at the airport offering over 400 popular titles, and a local gift shop that features gifts and souvenirs including regional fare.

Bus: The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) offers a high frequency public bus service to and from the airport and other popular Richmond locations.

Taxi: Taxis can be located on the lower level of the terminal, in the center of the curbside area, adjacent to the North and South parking garages. Services run between the first and last flights of the day.

Rideshare: Rideshare app services are available at the airport. Pickup locations can be found on the upper Departures level and on the lower Arrivals level.

Car rentals: There are many car rental companies with service desks at the airport. They are located near the central entrance of the terminal building, on the lower level near the Arrivals Hall.

Parking: Many parking options are available at the airport. Directly across from the main terminal are daily and hourly rate garages. Located further across the street, are economy parking lots. These are serviced by complimentary shuttle services that run 24/7. The airport also features valet parking services between 4:00am to midnight, electric vehicle charging stations, and cell phone waiting lots for guests who are picking up passengers from the airport.
