Located in the Farwaniya Governorate, about 15 km south of Kuwait City, Kuwait International Airport (KWI) is Kuwait’s main hub. In 2023, it welcomed over 15.6 million travelers, and it is now used by roughly 100 airlines for their domestic and international flights. KWI is also the primary hub for both Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways.
Kuwait Airport is divided into three terminals.
Terminal 1: This is the main terminal and operates both international and domestic flights from all kinds of airlines.
Terminal 4: This terminal is exclusively used by Kuwait Airways.
Terminal 5: Terminal 5 only operates Jazeera Airways's flights.
An additional terminal, Terminal 2, is now under construction, yet it's still unclear when it will officially open.
Those with a layover exceeding eight hours are entitled under Kuwaiti air transport law to a free room at the Safir Airport Hotel. You can reach this hotel thanks to the complimentary shuttle, which takes about 10 minutes.
At Kuwait Airport, you will also find several restaurants and cafès, including famous eateries such as Costa Coffee and Starbucks. If you have some extra time before boarding your flight, you can head to the Airport Mall, adjacent to Terminal 1, to find all sorts of shops and boutiques.
Several buses connect Kuwait International Airport to Kuwait City. If you prefer to drive, you can rent a car from one of the many rental car agencies at the airport, most of which are located in Terminal 1.
