Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) is Finland's main airport and welcomed 15.3 million passengers in 2023. It has over 100 destinations worldwide to choose from, and roughly 30 airlines operate here. HEL also serves as a base for Finnair, Finland's flag carrier, and it's an operating base for several airlines, including TUIfly Nordic and Norwegian Air Shuttle.
While the airport used to consist of two terminals, they were merged into a single big terminal in 2022, with a total of 50 gates.
Travelers wanting to spend the night here will have plenty of options, such as Comfort Hotel® Xpress Helsinki Airport Terminal, Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport, Comfort Hotel Helsinki Airport, Hilton Helsinki Airport, and Scandic Helsinki Airport. These hotels are all within walking distance from the terminal and some can be reached without exiting the building.
Helsinki Airport has a variety of food options for all tastes, including Asian and European restaurants, and - of course - Nordic cuisine. Multinational food chains, such as Subway and Starbucks, are also available. Here, you'll also find duty-free stores and shops selling luxury clothes and other goods.
Once landed, you'll be able to choose one of the many transportation options available:
Car rental: If you want to drive, head to the Arrivals hall, next to parking information. Here, you'll find several agencies where you can rent a car.
Bus: Line 600 takes about 40 minutes to reach the city center. If you need to head to other areas in Finland, you'll find other buses connecting the airport to cities, such as Turku and Tampere.
Trains: Trains I and P trains can take you to Helsinki in 30 minutes. The station is located under Terminal 1 and long-distance trains are also available.
