Welcoming 5.85 passengers in 2023, Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) is Azerbaijan’s number one airport and a main hub in the Caucasus. GYD serves the city of Baku, and over 30 airlines operate their flights here, connecting this metropolis to plenty of destinations. Once known as Bina International, this airport is about 20 km northeast of Baku and serves as the hub for the country’s national carrier, Azerbaijan Airlines.
This airport consists of two terminals connected by a walkway.
Terminal 1: This is the newest terminal and is equipped with 40 check-in desks, 15 gates, 24 passport control desks, and four baggage carousels.
Terminal 2: Terminal 2 is slightly smaller than Terminal 1 and features eight gates, 48 check-in desks, ten passport control desks, and four baggage carousels.
Those wanting to spend a night at the airport can book a room at the Fly Inn Baku. This four-star hotel can be reached by a quick walk from both terminals.
Baku Airport features a vast selection of eateries and cafès, including world-renowned fast-food chains, such as MacDonald’s. Here, you will also find duty-free stores and other shops selling all sorts of goods.

Bus: The AeroExpress stops at both terminals before heading to Baku Railway Station. The bus operates 24-hour departing every twenty minutes during the day and every 45 at night.
Taxi: Baku Taxi Service LLC is the only taxi service recognized by the Azerbaijan State. You can book a taxi from the booth available in Terminal 1.
Car rental: Lastly, if you prefer to have a car during your stay in Azerbaijan, you can rent one from one of the many agencies available at the airport. Some of these include Hertz, Sixt, and Avis.
