Des Moines International (DSM) is the busiest hub in the US state of Iowa. Back in 2023, it welcomed over 3 million travelers thanks to the six airlines operating at this airport. Here, passengers can fly with American Airlines, Allegiant, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United, which provide non-stop flights to 30 destinations in the USA. DMS is located about 5 miles southwest of Des Moines, the capital of Iowa, and offers both civilian and military commercial services.
The airport consists of a single terminal with two concourses. Concourse A houses Gates A1 - A5 and is used by United and Southwest. There’s no Concourse B but a Concourse C, which is home to Gates C1 - C7. This is used by Frontier and Delta. Allegiant and American flights depart and arrive in both concourses.
Unfortunately, there are no sleeping cabins or pods in the terminal. However, there are a few hotels that can be reached within a 10/20-minute walk. Some accommodations in the area also provide a shuttle service.
Unfortunately, stores are very limited, but the airport is home to a few eateries and cafés. DSM also offers free wifi, a pet relief area outside of the terminal, a nursing room right after TSA security checkpoints, and a few ATMs.
If you are about to travel to or from Des Moines International Airport, here are a few options you may want to consider:
Bus: Several companies connect the airport to Des Moines and other destinations in the state. You can check the airport’s official website to learn more about these services.
Car Hire: Six car rental agencies have their offices in the terminal baggage claim area.
Taxis and Limos: Both taxis and limos serve the airport. Cabs can be found outside the baggage claim exit. You can check a list of limos operating here on the airport’s official website.
Car Sharing: Uber and Lyft drop off passengers at the entrance of the terminal, while the pick-up location is south of the building, outside the baggage claim area.
Those arriving here in their car can park in one of the many parking lots at the airport. A shuttle service provides connections between these and the main terminal.
