Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the primary airport serving South Africa’s second largest city, Cape Town. It is the second busiest airport in South Africa and the fourth-busiest airport in Africa overall.
The airport is located approximately 20km (12mi) from the Cape Town city center. It offers flights to destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. The route between Cape Town and Johannesburg is one of the busiest air routes globally.
The airport has domestic and international terminals. They are linked together by a common central terminal.
Central Terminal: Handles all passenger check-ins. Departures are located on upper floors. Arrivals are located on the lower floors. Passengers pass through a consolidated security area before heading to the northern terminal (International) or the southern terminal (Domestic, South Africa).
International Terminal: Located to the north side of the airport. Handles all international arrivals.
Domestic Terminal: Located on the south side of the airport. Handles all domestic arrivals.
Retail outlets at the airport are located on the lower level, on the landside of the arrivals area, and on the upper level, on the airside of the departures area.
Shops at the airport include accessories, fashion, apparel, African souvenirs, cosmetics, fragrances, beauty products, jewelry, flowers and gift shops, in addition to duty free shops featuring liquor and tobacco products.
Restaurants can be found located on the 3rd Level above the Departures floor before clearing security. These include cafes and fast-food chains. There are more options beyond the security checkpoint area including high quality sit-down restaurants featuring local cuisine with airside views.
The airport offers lounges for the benefit of travelers. These can be found in both the domestic and international lounges and include partner program and open pay programs for passengers.
Shuttle services: Various providers operate shuttle bus services to many destinations. Shuttle services will pick up passengers from the inner lane in front of the international arrivals area.
Taxi: Authorized taxicab companies operate from the transport kiosks and domestic arrivals desk in the Central Terminal Building.
Rental car: Several car rental agencies have operations at the airport. They can be found in front of the Transport Plaza across from the Central Terminal Building. The facility is accessible via two pedestrian tunnels on either side of the terminal building.
Parking: Several parking lots are accessible at the airport. A multi-level parking garage with valet services is located directly across from the international terminal. There is covered parking located behind the garage, a further distance from the terminal. In front of the domestic terminal, there is a second multi-story garage, with pickup services at ground level. Covered parking is located behind that parking garage and long-stay parking is located a further distance away from the domestic terminal building to the west.
