Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is one of three major airports serving the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. It is the busiest airport in the Baltimore-Washington area.
The airport serves as one of the 12 United States operating bases for Southwest Airlines. It is located 9mi (14km) south of downtown Baltimore and 30mi (50km) northeast of Washington, D.C.
The airport has one terminal. It has five concourses:
Concourse A/B: Exclusively used by Southwest Airlines. It has 30 Gates.
Concourse C: Used by Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, and Contour. It has 14 Gates.
Concourse D: Used for domestic flights, and non-Southwest Airlines flights. It has 23 Gates, 3 of which are used for international flights.
Concourse E: Used for international flights. It has 11 Gates, all of which are used for international flights. International flights from Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines use this concourse.
The airport offers more than 50 dining options for travelers. These range from convenience stores and takeaway, to fast food and high quality dining experiences. Several restaurants at the airport are offering 24/7 services.
There are many outlets for shoppers to choose from at the airport. These offer everything from newsstands, press and magazines, cosmetics, jewelry, fashion and accessories, to gifts souvenirs, and the latest in electronics.
The airport also offers extensive fitness facilities. These include a full gym suite on-site, complete with showers, and two indoor cardio trails that encompass separately both the public side of the terminal and the secured area of Concourse A/B. It also features an outdoor hiking and biking trail that stretches ten miles long surrounding the entire airport complex.
Rail: Baltimore Light RailLink offers services between the airport and downtown Baltimore. The light rail station is located next to Concourse E.
Train: The train station is located on airport grounds, approximately one mile away from the terminal. The airport offers free shuttle buses between the terminal and the train station. Amtrak and MARC operate regular services to Union Station in Washington, D.C., and Penn Station in Baltimore, among others.
Bus: Several local buses make stops at the airport terminal. These include services that connect with Baltimore Light RailLink, and the Washington Metro.
Taxi: Taxi stands are located outside of the baggage claim area in the Arrivals area, near terminal doors 5 and 13.
Car rentals: Several car rental companies operate at the airport. These can all be found at the one-stop rental car station. It is located at Stoney Run Road and New Ridge Road. Free airport shuttle services are available to transport passengers between the airport terminal and the Car Rental Facility.
Parking: There are several options for parking at the airport. These include hourly rates, daily rates, express parking, and long-term parking. Shuttle bus services are available for off-airport parking locations.
