Auckland Airport (AKL) is the main international airport serving Auckland, the most populous city in New Zealand. It is the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand and the busiest single-runway airport in Oceania.
The airport serves as the principal service hub for New Zealand’s national flag carrier, Air New Zealand. It also serves as an operating base for Air Chathams, Barrier Air, and Jetstar. It is located 21km (13mi) south of the Auckland city centre, in the residential suburb of Māngere.
The airport has two terminals. They are named, the Domestic Terminal and the International Terminal.
Domestic Terminal: Consists of two previously separate buildings that are now connected by a common retail area under a single roof.
International Terminal: The terminal consists of three levels, and two sections, East and West.
Departures occupy the eastern half of the terminal. Passengers will check-in on the ground floor, then proceed to the first floor which includes retail shops, immigration and security. Boarding gates are located on the second floor.
Arrivals occupy the western half of the terminal. Arrival gates are located on the upper first floor. After passing through duty-free and immigration, baggage claim areas and security are located on the ground floor, next to the arrivals hall.
The two terminals are serviced by a free shuttle bus that runs between them. Additionally, there is a 500m walkway connecting the two buildings.
There are many dining options for travelers to choose from when at the airport. These include cafes, fast foods, healthy options, Asian cuisine and high-quality sit-down restaurants. These are conveniently located on both sides of security check-in points.
There are plenty of retailers with outlets at the airport for shoppers to choose from and explore. These include luxury brands, fashion and speciality apparel, cosmetics, jewelry, accessories, travel essentials, chocolates and sweets, the latest in electronics and duty-free shopping.
The airport also features the Strata Lounge, where travelers can relax and enjoy premium foods after clearing through security. The lounge includes comfortable seating, dedicated work areas and private relaxation spaces.
Train-Bus: The AirportLink bus leaves from bus stop B at the domestic terminal, and bus stop A at the international terminal. Service runs to Puhinui Station, and connects from there to trains that run along the Southern Line and Eastern Line. AirportLink runs every 10 minutes, from 4:30am-12:40am.
Bus: SkyDrive offers an express shuttle service between Auckland Airport and SkyCity in Central Auckland. Services run every 30 minutes between 5:00am-10:30pm. Buses depart from bus stop A at the domestic terminal and bus stop E at the international terminal.
