Locally known as Sunport, Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) distinguishes itself from other main hubs thanks to its unique Pueblo Revival architecture. This airport handled over 5.3 million passengers in 2023, and eight airlines are currently operating here: United, Sun Country Airlines, Spirit, Southwest, JetBlue, Delta, American, and Alaska Airlines. ABQ offers direct routes to 30 domestic destinations, and Southwest Airlines uses it as a focus airport. This airport has a strategic location about three miles southeast of downtown Albuquerque, between the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande.
Albuquerque Airport consists of a single terminal building of approximately 600,000 sq. ft. It features three concourses (A - C), of which A and B - with a total of 22 gates - are primarily used by commercial air carriers, while the C gates are for commuter airlines. ABQ is divided into three floors:
Unfortunately, there are no hotels inside the airport. However, the Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel is located right in front of the terminal. Other nearby options are available, as well as a variety of accommodations offering a shuttle service.
Despite being a medium-sized airport, ABQ has plenty of services for its passengers. Here, you will find an observation deck, exhibitions documenting the aviation history of the airport, and a meditation room. Tours of the buildings are also available. The airport is also home to several restaurants and cafés, including famous eateries such as Panda Express and Dunkin' Express, and many stores selling all sorts of products.
If you're about to head to this airport, here are a few transportation options to consider.
If you're arriving here with your own car, you can park in one of the three parking lots. The first ten minutes are free of charge.
