Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA), also formerly known as Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Williams Gateway Airport, and Williams Air Force Base is an international airport in the southeastern area of Mesa, Arizona, located approximately 20 miles (32km) to the southeast of downtown Phoenix.
Within Maricopa County, the airport serves as a relief airport for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to help deal with congestion issues when there are high volumes of passenger traffic. The airport also serves as a primary operating base for Allegiant Air.
The airport has one terminal, named the Charles L. Williams Terminal.
It’s main entrance and ticketing area can be found to the south of the main terminal building. The entrance area is a part of the building that is extended furthest to the west along the front of the terminal building.
Once cleared through the main ticketing area, is a hallway that leads to the security checkpoint area. Once past the security clearing area, is a long pier-shaped terminal with access to all of the airport’s boarding gates.
The boarding gates in this airport are numbered sequentially from right to left, facing the airside of the terminal.
The area for Arrivals is located across from boarding gates 6 and 7. Passengers can find the baggage claim area here, along with offices for rental car companies.
The terminal is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
There are many great dining experiences on offer at the airport including convenience stores, coffee and tea bars, Mexican specialty food, fast casual foods, and a craft brewery featuring a gourmet food menu.
The airport also has some great options for shoppers while they enjoy their time at the airport. Shops at the airport feature travel essentials, souvenirs and gifts, along with regional and local specialty retail goods.
There is also a lost and found service at the airport for travelers and passengers.
Public transit: Valley Metro bus route 184 runs between the airport and north Mesa.
Taxi: Taxi stands are located outside of the baggage claim area. Ride sharing options and executive car services are also available.
Car rentals: Several companies operate rental car services at the airport. Their counters can be found next to the baggage claim area in the Arrivals Hall.
Parking: Short-term hourly and daily lots are available within a short distance to the terminal. There is also an economy lot to the south of the airport. It is served by a free shuttle bus operating to and from the terminal building.
