Located near the town of Fletcher and about 9 miles south of downtown Asheville, Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is one of the many hubs in North Carolina. In 2023, AVL handled a total of 2,2 million passengers, setting a new all-time record. Today, this airport offers about 25 direct routes to several destinations in the USA. Here, passengers will find flights operated by United, Sun Country, JetBlue, Delta, American Airlines, and Allegiant (the company offering the vastest selection of destinations).
The airport has a single terminal and a simple layout, making it easy for passengers to find their gates. Travelers enter the building from the east side, where the Grand Hall is located. This area is home to airline ticket counters and a first aid office. The baggage claim area for arriving passengers is located on the left, while TSA security checkpoints are next to the ticket counters. After TSA checkpoints, travelers can access the airside area, which is home to gates G1-G7.
Unfortunately, due to its reduced size, this airport doesn't have any sleeping facilities. On the positive side, there are several nearby hotels providing a shuttle service to the airport.
Despite being a small airport, AVL has several facilities for its passengers. Here, you will find a lactation pod for mothers right after the TSA checkpoints, water refilling stations, an ATM, and recharge stations. Some of the other facilities include a piano for those wanting to relax before their flight, a postal box, and a pet relief area. This airport is also home to a few eateries, even though the options are limited.
If you are about to travel to or from Asheville Airport, here are a few options:
Public Transportation: Route 3 of the Asheville ART Public Transit connects the airport with downtown Asheville
Car Hire: Several car rental agencies are available on-site, including Avis, Budget, and Heartz, just to mention a few.
Taxi: Cabs serve the airport, connecting it to nearby destinations.
Those arriving here in their car can park in one of the parking lots available. You can check the airport's official website for more information.
